Job Description

Toshiba Europe Limited are leading innovator of quantum information technology, and have introduced quantum light emitting diodes for the generation of single and entangled photons for quantum networks and quantum teleportation. We are now looking for an established scientist to join our group, and lead a dedicated team of researchers in the continued advancement of quantum devices, quantum networks, and their applications. The successful candidate will have proven track record of achievement in a relevant field of research, with strong leadership skills and motivation to work collaboratively with colleagues and partners in academia and industry.

Responsibilities:


· Leading a team to research and develop quantum devices and quantum network applications.

· Strong integration within a larger group, working with other teams with complimentary goals within the quantum information industry.

· Coordination with partners in academia and industry on shared projects.

· Representation and reporting of the team’s achievements internally, and for external collaborative projects.

· Wide engagement with the scientific and industrial community, through conferences, scientific publications, and industry events.



Skills & Experience - Essential:


· PhD in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related discipline

· Impactful body of original research in semiconductor devices, quantum optics, or related field

· Experience of both creative, independent work and working within an interactive team.

· Excellent collaborative communication skills

· Technical leadership experience.

· Desire to work with new technologies and adapt to achieve shared mission.



Skills & Experience - Desirable:


· Administrative or strategic leadership experience such as reporting and planning

· Understanding of device fabrication processes

· Optoelectronic device characterisation experience

· Semiconductor device simulation and modelling

· Knowledge of PCB design, assembly, and GHz electronics

· Experience within large collaborative projects with partner organisations.


Background Information

Toshiba Europe Limited have been at the forefront of research in quantum technology for the past two decades. During this time they have made many breakthroughs, including quantum key distribution with record high bit rates, the first single and entangled photon LEDs, and the first GHz operation of 1550nm single photon avalanche diodes.
