The Cambridge Research Laboratory (CRL) is a vital part of Toshiba’s worldwide research and development network that contributes to the development of next generation technologies to empower Toshiba’s future business. The Speech Technology Group at CRL is looking for exceptional candidates to join our multimodal research team, which focuses on situated AI to improve human and machine capabilities using a natural speech interface. With the recent advances in computer vision and natural spoken interfaces, we are pushing the boundaries to develop systems that continuously learn from collaboration with its operators. You will have the opportunity to work with an interdisciplinary team of researchers developing solutions using speech and vision technologies. You will have the opportunity to collaborate with world leading academic groups as well as with in the Toshiba Corporate R&D Centre in Japan. Publishing at major conferences and in top journals is one of the top objectives.
Responsibilities:
- Develop new ideas using natural spoken interfaces for situated interaction
- Author/Co-author papers in conferences and journals
- Prototype system development
- Possibility to supervise interns and PhD students
Key Qualifications:
- A PhD/Masters in the areas related to speech technology, machine learning or in a related field
- Hands-on experience with theoretical derivations and practical implementations
- Strong publication record at major conferences or journals
- Solid programming skills using modern machine learning frameworks
- Post-doctoral/industrial experience is desirable
Expertise:
Sound understanding of one or more of the following areas:
- Speech and Natural Language Processing
- Dialogue Modelling
- Multimodal communication (vision + speech/text)
