We are looking for an experienced and driven Quantum Applications Engineer who will play a key role in the servicing and installation of quantum cryptography products developed by Toshiba.  In this role you will be fault finding and diagnosing quantum cryptography products both onsite at Cambridge, UK and in the field. You will also be involved in the installation and commissioning of quantum cryptography products around the world.  This is a unique opportunity to work with cutting-edge quantum cryptography technology with a diverse range of commercial clients. Appropriate training will be given.

Responsibilities:

  • Customer/Partner Technical Support:
    • Provide technical assistance, support, and solutions to customers deploying Toshiba's QKD platform system.
    • Improve customer understanding of system applications.
    • Respond to customer and partner inquiries.


  • Servicing:
    • Develop procedures for servicing and installing secure optical communication systems.
    • Set up and characterise optical communication systems to prove error free functionality and conformity to design standards.
    • Isolating, diagnosing and fixing problems.
    • Documenting test procedures, process improvements, nonconformities and test results.


Essential Requirements:

  • Experience of successful experimental/practical work
  • Customer-facing experience supporting highly technical products
  • Ability to work analytically and to solve problems efficiently
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to work individually or as a team member 
  • Willingness to travel on a regular basis


Desirable Requirements:

  • Degree level qualification in Electronic Engineering, Physics, Electronics, Computer Science or a related discipline
  • Experience of digital electronics or fibre optic systems
  • Familiarity with Linux operation systems ​​​​​​​
